Splenic Mesothelial Cyst (a Case Report)

Splenic mesothelial cyst is a rare entity. A 20 year old woman was admitted to emergency clinic with complaints of headache, fever, shiver symptoms for nearly 10 days. In the ultrasonographic examination, the spleen was observed to be large, in which there was a 56´47 mm semisolid mass with internal echos in the upper pole adjacent to the diaphragm. In microscopic examination, splenic mesothelial cyst stained positively with Cytokeratin and the diagnosis was made as mesothelial cyst according to the findings obtained. Due to the fact that splenic cysts are rarely encountered, we decided to review the literature data and present the case.Keywords: Spleen, Cyst, Neoplasms, MesothelialTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:406-408
