In our study mast cell counts in proliferative phase, secretion phase and cystic hyperplasias, of endometrium were investigated in two groups, in which tissues were prepared using with fixative solutions of %10 Formaline and Carnoy’s.
In the first group, with making a retrospective study, 40 cases of materials which are fixed in Formaline, were used. In the second group, a prospective study was made and materials of curettage were fixed in Carnoy’s solution. In this group, 20 cases, which were proliferative and secretion phase, and 7 cases, which were cystic hyperplasias were evaluated. In each two group, average mast cell counts were found in proliferative phase, secretion phase and cystic hyperplasias by means of Toluedin Blue fixation solutions effects on mast cells were compared.
In this study, an exident increase of mast cell count, was found in proliferative and secretion phases by means of Carnoy’s solution as compared to Formaline’s series. On the other hand, no significant increase as statistically was found in cystic hyperplasia cases. In series of %10 Formaline, a significant difference on mast cell counts was not found between proliferative phase and hyperplasia cases. In addition, a statistical increase of mast cell counts in secretion phase was found in comparison with proliferative phase and hyperplastic tissues.
In tissues which were fixed with Carnoy’s solution, a significant increase was found in secretion phase. Finally, mast cell count of hyperplastic tissue was more than proliferative phase.
