The diagnosis of sacroiliitis become difficult with plain graphies due to the ondulating edges and following an oblique direction of sacroiliac joints. The aim of this study is to compare the plain graphies with CT studies in sacroiliitis staging. Total 43 cases with 14 female and 29 male diagnosed as sacroiliitis clinically, had plain sacroiliac graphy in Ferguson position and examined with coronal CT. Staging was made with plain graphy and CT studies and the results were compared within each other. According to the CT study Results:18.6% of them were normal, 13.9% of them were in stage I, 16.3% were in stage II, 31.4% were in stage III, 19.8% were in stage IV. The results of the plain graphies were: 22.1% were normal, 10.5% were in stage I, 23.3% were in stage II, 26.7% were in stage III and 17.5% were in stage IV.
We consider CT in diagnosis and staging of sacroiliitis to be more effective; however one cannot ignore the usefullness of plain radiograms in primary radiologic examination.
