Because of nitric oxide synthase shows almost the same distribution as this enzyme, the usage of histochemical and immunohistochemical methods come into view.
In this study we aim to examine the properties of NADPH-diaphorase neurons of plexus myentericus on whole-mount preparations of rat intestine and to determine the dispersion of these cells in both ileum and colon by using histochemical methods.
Although there were certain differentiation between the staining of cells, we detected that they looked like the cells that have been described as Dogiel type I neurons. In the plexus myentericus of ileum and colon, we determined the intensity of ganglions and the NADPH-diaphorase (+) neurons per each ganglion. Keywords: Plexus myentericus, rat, NADPH-diaphorase,
