This system controls the modility, exocrine and endocrine secretions and microcirculations of the gastrointestinal tract; it is also involved in regulating immune and inflammatory processes. In the past decade, major advances in the understanding of the enteric nervous system have led to a greater appreciation of its importance in clinical medicine. Keywords: Enteric nervous system, DiseasesTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 1999, 19:40-47
