Mustafa Cihat AVUNDUK*
* Yard.Doç.Dr.,Selçuk Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Patoloji AD, KONYA We re-examined a number of forty-five biopsy specimens diagnosed as benign prostatic hyperplasia, intraepithelial neoplasia and adenocarcinoma of prostate. Each group contained equal number of biopsy specimens. New slides from the paraffin blocks of diagnostic specimens were prepared and stained with silver impregnation technique. NOR granules which were stained positively with this technique were counted and the AgNOR values were established for each specimens. The mean AgNOR values were found to be as 3.08 ± 0.4 (for benign prosthetic hyperplasia group), 5.17 ± 1.4 (for intraepithelial neoplasia group) and 7.53 ± 1.9 (for adenocarcinoma group). These statistically significant differences were found when the groups were compared with each other. We emphasise diagnostic and prognostic importance of AgNOR values in prostatic lesions in the view of the results of this study. Keywords: Prostate, Benign prostatic hyperplasia,
