The Hypertension Prevalance And Influencing Risk Factorsin 30 Years And Older Subjects In Central Health Centerin Torul District Of Gumushane Province

A group of 350 persons stratified and randomly selected among the 1516 people over 30 years of age living in the region of Torul Health Center of Gumushane province, has been sampled from April to June in 1994. Persons included in the sample were interviewed personally and asked to fill out a questionnaire. At the same time, their blood pressure were measured.
According to the findings, the prevalance of hypertension was 27.4 % in the over 30 years old population. Although the highest prevalence of hypertension was detected in the 60-69 years of age group, it was found declining in the over 70 years of age group again. The low socioeconomic level, widowhood, hypertension story at the family, over weighting, smoking for a long period and give it up, high consumption of coffee and animal fats are the risk factors for the hypertension prevalence.
