Approximately one third of patients with chronic venous insufficiency will develop limb ulcers over a ten-year period. A history of superficial phlebitis or deep vein thrombosis was elicited in most of the patients. Including all legs, venous ulcers were more common in the left leg with the number of 20 (34.4%) then in the right with 14 (24.1%). Surgical treatment of venous ulcers should be considered in the patients who fail in medical treatment. Keywords: venous ulcer, etiology, clinical foundationsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 1999, 19:326-329
