The Correlation Of The Immunoreactivity P53 With Prostate-specific Antigen, Gleason Score And Stage In Prostatic Adenocarcinoma

In this study, we examined 40 cases diagnosed as prostatic adenocarcinoma and investigated immunohistochemically the relationship between the mutant p53 with prostate-specific antigen (PSA), Gleason score and stage. Of 40 cases p53 was observed to be positive in 6 (15 %); p53 was negative in all of 11 cases whose Gleason score was 2-4, while p53 was observed to be positive in 2 of 17 (11.7%) cases with Gleason score 5-7 and in 4 of 12 (33 %) cases with Gleason score 8-10. PSA results were found in 22 of 40 cases. As to the relationship between PSA and p53 in 22 cases, p53 was observed to be negative in all of 5 cases, whose PSA was 0-4 ng/ml, while it was positive in 2 of 6 (33.3%) cases with PSA 4-10 ng/ml and in 4 of 11 (36.3%) cases whose PSA was above 10ng/ml. p53 was also determined to be positive in 2 of 7 (28.5%) cases in localized stage (stage A,B,C) and in 4 of 15 (26.6%) cases in metastatic stage (stage D). As a result, the relationship between the p53 positivity and tumor differentiation degree was meaningful (p<0.05). There was a meaningful difference between well and low differentiated tumors in view of p53 positivity (p< 0.05). The relationship between tumor immunoreactivity and PSA, stage was not significant (p>0.05).Keywords: Prostate, adenocarcinoma, p53,
