The first group of rats was fed a commercial basal diet as control group. Second group was given the same basal diet supplemented with 1% catechin for three weeks. Erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and Lpx levels were measured by spectrophotometric methods. Erythrocyte SOD and GSH-Px activities were significantly higher (p<0.05, p<0.01 respectively) and, Lpx levels lower (p<0.01) in catechin supplemented group than those of controls. There was a strong negative relationship between GSH-Px and Lpx levels (r=-0.881 p<0.01) and a relatively weak negative relationship between SOD and Lpx levels (r=0.635 p<0.05) in catechin group. The results suggest that dietary supplementation of catechin causes a decrease in erythrocyte Lpx level and this effect may be originated from induction of antioxidant enzymes. Keywords: Catechin, Glutathione peroxidase,
