Epidemiology Of Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis appears to be an important public health problem as a consequence the people gradually gets older. The most important outcome of osteoporosis is bone fractures and this complication affects the morbidity and mortality on a large scale. In order to determine osteoporosis, bone mineral density measurement and diagnostic criteria of World Health Organization are used. A lot of risk factors have a role in elderly women who is the major affected population with osteoporosis. Life style changes, hormon replacement therapy, and other alternative treatments and epidemiological screening are important for prevention of osteoporosis.Keywords: Osteoporosis, epidemiologyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2000, 20:35-39
