In this study, the results of urine microscopy on 300 routine urinalysis specimens were compared using IRIS, a semi-automated urine analyzer, with results obtained using manual microscopic examination of stained and non-stained slides. IRIS was more sensitive in identifying of erythrocyte, leukocyte, cast and crystals especially compared with the results of non-stained microscopic examination. However, the stained examination of urine sediments were more successful in the recognition of particulate analytes in urine than those the results of non-stained examination. Moreover, the automation of microscopic examination of urine provides good standardization of the urinalysis procedure, saves considerable manipulative handling and time, automatically consolidates fast and accurate reports and storage of results. Keywords: Urinalysis, Microscopy of urine,
