We aimed to search radiological anatomy of hyoid bone and the relation between hyoid bone and marginal structures.
In our study we used direct cervical lateral radiographs which were taken on the right side of sixty cases (30 males, 30 females) who had no neurological disorders, and never had any operations or trauma on this region.
The relations between hyoid bone and marginal structures (sternoclavicular joint, body of mandible, cervical vertebraes), the measurements and location of hyoid bone of both sexes were established. There are differences in the vertebral level of location of hyoid bone and the dimensions of hyoid bone between sexes (p<0.001). Moreover there was a correlation between weight, height and hyoid bone measurements.
Hyoid bone variations can be seen with other variations and some syndromes (hyoid bone syndrome). In our opinion, the hyoid bone variations which are getting from preadult period will light the way of clinical studies and assessments. Keywords: Hyoid bone, Cervical region,
