Seventy ESRF and 70 healthy control cases were choosen. The predialysis values of patients were compared with control group and postdialysis values (which were taken 5 minutes later) were compared with predialysis values.
Comparing the predialysis values of the patients with controls the triglyceride, apolipoprotein B, VLDL and Lp(a) were found significantly higher in the patient group than the control group (p<0.001, <0.05, <0.001, <0.001 respectively). When postdialysis parameters were compared with predialysis parameters, there was a significant increase in LDL, apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein A and Lp (a) levels in ESRF patients (p<0.001,<0.01,<0.001,<0.001 respectively).
Lp(a) level in ESRF patients was higher than the control group, independent of the hemodialysis effect, this should be related with dislipidemia of ESRF patients. Although the etiology of this acute harmful effect of hemodialysis on lipid profile and Lp (a) level is still unknown, this negative effect may increase in the long term by initation of chronic hemodialysis programme. Keywords: Lipoprotein (a), Hemodialysis,
