* Dr., Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Anesteziyoloji ve Reanimasyon AD, Infective endocarditis is a bacterial infection of endocardial surface of heart which shows symptoms of infection, embolism problems and endocardial vegetations. One of the major klinic findings is random or continuous fever. Because of general anesthesia's negative effects on immune system, senility and high fever which is triggering malignant hyperthermia with volatil agents, combined spinal epidural anaesthesia (CSEA) was used for splenectomy operation in a 65 year-old female patient with infective endocarditis and high fever. Operation was completed succesfully with light sedation and short-time respiratory support. In conclusion; CSEA can be used in risky patients for upper abdominal surgery with light sedation and short-time respiratory support. So, we can avoid from the risks of general aneshtesia. Keywords: Anesthesia, Endocarditis, SurgeryTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2001, 21:54-56
