Brace Usage In Scoliosis Treatment

Bracing is a very old form of management of spine deformities. In 1946 Blount and Schmidt introduced the Milwaukee brace, and in 1958 they suggested that the brace could be used for the nonoperative management of scoliosis. Since that time, treatment with the Milwaukee brace has been widely accepted as the most effective nonoperative means of controlling progression in growing children today, together with bracing, the best results are achieved in patients whose curves are between 20 and 29 degrees as compared 30 to 39 degrees. For the high risk patients, one should not wait until the curve reaches 30 degrees.Keywords: Scoliosis, BraceTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2001, 21:141-148
