Corticosteroids And Their Use In Clinical Practice

** Doç.Dr., Akdeniz Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Spor Hekimliği BD, ANTALYA Corticosteroids and biologically active synthetic analogs are discussed with respect to their relative glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid activities. These agents are employed both for replacement therapy and for the treatment of diverse nonendocrine disease. Corticosteroids exert profound effects on almost every organ system and, because of these diverse actions, are among the most widely used classes of drugs. As a consequence of their pleiotropic effects, the clinical use of and withdrawal from corticosteroids are complicated by a number of serious side effects, some of which are life threatening.
