The Effects Of Operating Room Conditions On The Operating Room Personnel

The longterm harmful effects of chronic exposure to anesthetic waste gases on the operating room personnel have been a problem. We carried out an investigation using a detailed and descriptive questionnaire on the population consisting of 65 anesthesist (female 45-man 20), 49 surgeon (F=19, M=30) and 42 physician (F=20, M=22) from basic sciences. In the group of anesthesists and surgeons we noted many ilnesses, especially viral diseases, more frequent use of medications. In Group I, there were increased number of abortions and children with varying congenital anomalies but no surgeon and the control group. Such an increase in health problems could be related to many harmful agents and the operating room, as well as the anesthetic waste products.Keywords: Anesthetics, Inhalation, HealthTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2001, 21:83-93
