Vitiligo: Etiopathogenesis, Clinic And Treatment

Vitiligo is a relatively common skin disease characterised by development of patchy depigmented macules. The destruction of melanocytes is the cause of depigmented maculae. Although the cause is unknown, various theories such as the autoimmune, autocytotoxic, and neural hypotheses have been proposed. In this article, clinical characteristics of vitiligo disease, mechanism of the theories causing destruction of melanocyte and the basic information about their medical treatment as well as the recent improvements, are being quoted.Keywords: Vitiligo, Etiopathogenesis, TreatmentTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2001, 21:200-209
