Materials and Methods: 28 healthy volunteers (17 men and 11 women) participated in this study. The study was performed on two separate days. The subjects were exposed to clean air at the first day and to the polluted air at the second day. Pulmonary Function Tests were measured before, immediately after and 30 minutes after the 20 m Shuttle Run Test. Results were presented as means ± standard deviations. Comparisons were made by Wilcoxon Matched-Pair Signed Ranks Test.
Result: Calculated VO2max values of male subjects at the first day were 48.40±4.18 ml/kg/dk, second day values were 48.22±5.53 ml/kg/dk. Calculated VO2max values of female subjects at the first day were 38.07±4.56 ml/kg/dk, second day values were 37.36±4.14 ml/kg/dk respectively. It was found that there was not any statistically significant difference between results both in female and male groups (p>0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results, we may claim that air pollution negatively affect pulmonary function tests. Keywords: Air pollution, Aerobic capacity,
