*** Doç.Dr., Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Halk Sağlığı AD, Ankara The prevelance of iron deficiency anaemia is high in workers and different related factors affect this outcome. In the present study, we investigated the prevalance of iron deficiency anaemia in a total of 104 workers from Ankara Soil and Fertiliser Research Institute.
15.4% of the workers were found to be anaemic. No statistically significant relations were found between anaemia and gender and age groups. Anaemia was diagnosed in 30% of the laboratory staff, 15.8% of the office workers, 11.1% of the technical personnel. 20% of the subjects working 8 hours a day were found to be anaemic and the same rate was 13% for those working more than 9 hours a day. 20% of women with regular menstruation had anaemia while 33.3% women with irregular and heavy bleeding had anaemia. No statistically significant relations were found between anaemia and the occupation, the number of working days in a week, working hours in a day, the parity of women, the place where they are having lunch, the number of meals in a day and history of a chronic disease (p>0.05).
