Results: The mean age of male patients was 57.9 ± 14.1 years and mean age of female patients was 57.9 ± 14.8 years. The mean values of height, weight and body mass index were 168.1 ± 6.2 cm, 73.46 ± 18.18 kg, 25.92 ± 5.61 kg/m² in male patients, and 157.5 ± 3.4 cm, 68.64 ± 16.32 kg and 27.72 ± 7.02 kg/m² in female patients respectively. Healthy volunteers whose ages were similar with those of the patients were evaluated as control groups. There was no statistically significance between the mean height of diabetic polyneuropathic patients and healthy volunteers. Mean weight and body mass index of diabetic polyneuropathic patients were found as slightly higher but not statistically significant than those of the control subjects. Plasma levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides were 193.00 ± 29.67, 148.33 ± 59.71 mg/dl in diabetic polyneuropathic male patients and 228.14 ± 50.94, 249.71 ± 67.10 mg/dl in female patients, respectively. When the values of patients were compared with control subjects, mean plasma total cholesterol level was higher but not significantly in both sexes of patients group and plasma triglycerides were also significantly higher in female patients (p<0.05). Plasma levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides were found to be higher than the those of the normal ranges in female patients. Plasma levels of HDL-C, LDL-C and VLDL-C of patients group were 45.83 ± 8.13, 114.17 ± 22.20, 33.00 ± 20.71 mg/dl in males and 49.14 ± 7.91, 143.19 ± 35.18, 38.05 ± 18.26 mg/dl in females respectively. In the both sexes of patient group, despite the fact that plasma HDL-C levels were lower and the levels of LDL-C and VLDL-C were higher than those of the control group, only the high level of LDL-C in female patients was significantly different from the control group (p<0.05). But, it was determined that all three parameters measured from the healthy volunteers and patients were in normal ranges. The ratio of LDL-C to HDL-C was found to be significantly higher in both sexes of patients compared to control subjects Conclusion: Our results were discussed together with the data obtained from previous studies concerned with the changes in plasma lipid profile which can be effected from changes abnormalities in lipid metabolism in diabetic polyneuropathic patients. Keywords: Diabetes, Polyneuropathy, Plasma lipids,
