As a result life expectancy and the proportion of the elderly population raised accordingly. This process causes the women to live a part of their lives in menopause state.

Results: We found that out of 845 women 184 were in menopause, 8 of who had had hysterectomies. 458 were having regular cycles but rest 184 were having irregular cycles. Mean age of menopause was found to be 47.47 ± 3.95 median menopauses age 48 respectively. Statistically significant differences were found between women in menopause and still having regular sickles according to their education level (c2: 47.033 sd: 4 p< 0.0001), presence of still birth (c2: 20.134 sd: 1 p< 0.0001), mean number of offspring's (t: 8.301, p< 0.0001), having physical activity out of home (c2: 8.930 sd: 1 p< 0.0001), mean age of first delivery (t: 4.715, p<0.0001), history of hypertension (c2: 114.980 sd: 1 p< 0.0001), use of oral contraceptives (c2: 62.762 sd: 1 p< 0.0001), socioeconomic level (c2: 14.439 sd: 7 p< 0.0001) and mean body mass index (t: 6.479, p<0.0001). No significant differences were found between in two groups according to their mean menarch age, having an operation and having an abortion.
Conclusion: According to results of the study, which had been done on female population between ages 30 - 60 years of age at Silivri district, mean age of menopause superimposes with that of hot climate countries. Education level, mean number of offspring's, presence of stillbirths, mean age of first delivery, hypertension, and body mass index have influences on menopause at early age. Socioeconomic level and physical activity out of home have influences on menopause both at early and late ages. Keywords: Menarch, Menopause, still birth,Turkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2001, 21:493-499
